Around 2,500 years ago, in the Iron Age, the area of land currently covered by the Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate and Lorraine regions, Luxemburg and parts of Belgium was a centre of Celtic life and culture. The Celts were the roots of present-day Europe and today numerous places and finds bear testament to the era when Celtic culture was at its peak. The druids were the Celtic cultural and spiritual elite, the smiths forged the sharpest blades and tools from iron while their artists created filigree jewellery and the Celtic princes were mighty rulers and fearsome warriors.

The recently inaugurated European Celtic Route makes it now possible to set off and explore this exciting and often enigmatic culture.
